About Meg Rafter – Milliner
My background in Millinery was developed and has evolved through advanced college training, participation in millinery master classes and tutoring by Australian and International Master Milliners.
I am especially drawn to the timeless elegance of the classic fashion houses and the glamour of the golden Hollywood era. I have found inspiration in exhibitions such as the ‘Valentino Retrospective’, ‘Hats: An Anthology by Stephen Jones’ and the ‘House of Dior’. The exquisite collections of millinery presented in these exhibitions have left me with the desire to create resplendent headwear.
My work reflects the passion I feel for beautiful textiles, especially fine lustrous silks. I love working with rabbit fur felt and finely woven straws. Each work is an individual sculpture, designed to provide a rich embellishment to an outfit to reflect and portray the wearer’s personality. Using innovative techniques, I use my personal interpretation to develop contemporary creations.
Enriching the structures with jewels, lace, feathers, handmade flowers and bows or mysterious veiling adds to the drama of the headpiece; it makes each one unique.
My range includes Race Wear Hats and Fascinators, creations for Fashions on the Field, Mothers’ of the Bride, Cocktail Parties or indeed for any special occasion.
